Image sensor with 61.0 megapixel Exmor RTM in full format
The noise reduction of the back-illuminated sensor, the gapless on-chip lenses, anti-reflective coating, the elimination of the optical low-pass filter in front of the sensor and other original technologies enable high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range.
BIONZ XRTM image processor
The latest BIONZ XR image processor reduces latency and increases processing performance in photo and video recording. The result is natural gradations, realistic colors, low noise, brilliant image quality and fast operation.
High sensitivity and wide dynamic range with low noise
Sensitivity settings from ISO 100-32000 for photos and videos thanks to optimized image technology. The dynamic range at low sensitivity has 15 levels for smooth, realistic gradations from deep shadows to highlights.
Consistently accurate exposure and color reproduction
The optimized AI processing unit achieves optimal white balance even in shadows. Skin tones, foliage and other materials are reproduced in natural colors with lifelike gradations, e.g. light fall-off in portraits, at almost any exposure.
Advanced 5-axis optical image stabilization
Precise image stabilization, advanced gyro sensors and optimized algorithms effectively detect and correct camera shake. A great 7.0-stop advantage for hand-held shooting.
Pixel Shift Multi shots for changing conditions
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting allows you to take pictures with different numbers of pixels through precision control of the integrated image stabilization, which can then be combined into a single image on the PC for brilliant resolution. Compositions of 16 images with approx. 240.8 million pixels (19,008 x 12,672 pixels) can be generated from data with approx. 963.2 million pixels.
Anti-flicker system
Flicker caused by artificial light is automatically detected and the timing and speed of the mechanical or electronic shutter are precisely controlled to minimize this effect.
Selectable RAW image sizes and HEIF
Three sizes (L/M/S) of lossless RAW compression include M and S outputs at the same resolution (26 MP/15 MP) for full-frame and APS-C, for seamless operations. Light mode for JPEG and HEIF produces images that are easy to share.
Creative Look: various expression options
Ten customizable Creative Looks allow creatives to create different "looks" directly on the camera and precisely capture moods in photos and videos.
Lenses for maximum resolution with the Alpha 7CR
Sony's range of premium E-mount optical lenses includes over 70 models, including the G Master™ series with stunning resolution and bokeh and the G Lens™ series with outstanding image quality and soft bokeh. The compact, lightweight lenses fully exploit the resolution and rendering potential of Sony's popular E-mount cameras. Perfectly suited for E-mount cameras, they become compact, mobile systems for a wide range of photo and video applications.
AI processor for optimized scene recognition
The AI processing unit supports human detection through learned data on human shapes and posture, as well as recognition of non-human subjects such as animals, insects and vehicles. This improves the performance of AF with real-time detection and tracking, making subject detection and tracking far more accurate and reliable with fast hybrid AF.
Classification of human poses based on a skeleton model
The Alpha 7CR's new AI processing unit uses subject shape data for accurate motion detection, which greatly improves human eye recognition. The technology for classifying human poses recognizes not only the eyes but also the head and body position with high precision. This makes it possible to focus on a subject who is facing away from the camera or whose face is partially obscured by a helmet or sunglasses.
Recognition of many different subjects
AI processing enables the recognition of different subjects, e.g. the eyes of an even greater number of grazing and small animals and birds. The new combined animal/bird setting makes switching superfluous. Just like insect heads, cars/trains and airplanes are recognized either completely or at the front end.
Continuous tracking in real time
AI-based real-time tracking can be activated by selecting the subject and pressing the shutter button halfway. The camera automatically captures the subject. This allows the user to concentrate on composition and framing. Subject recognition and reliability have been significantly improved for other shooting situations.
Large-area high-density AF reliably captures subjects
The BIONZ XR engine and updated algorithms ensure significantly improved performance of the fast hybrid autofocus. Up to 693 phase detection points cover approx. 79 % of the image area. This means that even small subjects are captured precisely. The Alpha 7CR combines phase detection and AF contrast detection and focuses quickly and stably even with simple AF (AF-S).
High-precision AF thanks to EV -4.0 even in dark scenes
The latest AF algorithm enables AF shooting in low light conditions, at EV -4.0 (AF-S, ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens) even in dark scenes and indoors, and offers a useful Focus Priority mode.
Full-time DMF
When taking photos with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, you can switch directly to manual focus mode at any time by turning the lens focus ring. This makes it easy to switch focus to another subject.
Focus brackets for the optimum shot
The camera automatically captures up to 299 images with shifted focus points at defined intervals and sequences. You then select the perfect image. When editing, you can creatively compose images with incredible depth of field.
AF/AE continuous shooting with up to 8 fps
Continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking is possible at up to 8 fps with a mechanical shutter or 7 fps with silent shooting. This means that even brief movements or changes in expression can be captured in detail. The power of the BIONZ XR engine enables continuous shooting with over 1,000 JPEG images to capture important moments.
Mobility for HD video recording
The Alpha 7CR offers detailed 4K quality video recording with 6.2K oversampling combined with the mobility needed for shooting with a gimbal or drone. It also features S-Cinetone™ for cinema optics, log shooting, real-time tracking with optimized subject detection, Active Mode image stabilization, Breathing Compensation and many other improvements.
4K 60/50p recordings in full format
The latest BIONZ XR processor and revised algorithms offer significantly improved video quality. In addition to focus support, the camera's optimized AI processing unit is used to enable precise white balance even when the subject is in shadow. Skin tones, foliage and other materials are reproduced in consistently natural colors at almost any exposure, and gradations such as light fall-off in portraits are particularly lifelike.
6.2K video oversampling for impressive 4K images
4K video recordings are possible in full format and in Super 35 mm. With full pixel readout without pixel binning, approx. 2.6 times the required data can be compressed to 4K in high resolution and rich in detail with minimal moiré and raster effects.
S-Cinetone effortlessly creates a cinematic look
Sony's S-Cinetone Picture Profile delivers more faithful color reproduction and skin tones, with natural intermediate tones for healthy-looking skin, as well as smooth colors and great highlights that create a cinematic look without color correction.
Log recording and LUT
TheAlpha 7CR features an S-Log3 gamma curve for latitude maximization of over 14 levels. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color spectrum settings provide more control in post-processing. Selected LUTs (lookup table) allow a preview of the processed shots.
Active mode image stabilization for handheld video recording
Active mode enables precise stabilization for video recordings using innovative gyro sensors and an optimized algorithm. Camera shake is registered and compensated for by compatible objects working together with the camera to provide more stabilization.
Real-time tracking also supports focusing during filming
Significant improvement in real-time tracking performance thanks to AI, which recognizes, tracks and focuses on the eyes of a subject.
